Rion-Antirion Bridge
End supports (blue) of the suspended deck (yellow) serving as vertical anchorages for the deck (tension and compression). The horizontal forces (wind & earthquake) are taken by the diagonal struts. These are connected to the deck via horizontal dampers with fuses. In a very strong earthquake these fuses may break allowing the deck to move more freely and dissipate energy
