Abstract:

King Abdulaziz University is implementing a plan for the development of its new campus at Jeddah. The plan includes construction of teaching facilities, staff and student residences, a women's campus and various related support facilities. The campus has been planned around three squares: Ceremonial Square or Arrival Court, Academic Square and University Square. Ceremonial Arrival Court is the terminus of the road that links the University to the city center and is, therefore, the point where the public and university meet. Academic Square provides a nucleus for the major faculties. It is designed as an oasis of visual relief and quiet contemplation. University Square forms a core around which a variety of facilities are distributed. This article presents design and construction aspects of University Square.
