Abstract:

Theory of 2nd and 3rd order in structural engineering - the big misunderstandings.

The application of the theory of elasticity of 2nd order for three-dimensional lattice framework structures is widely used in structural engineering and modern standards. Nevertheless there is neither a systematic classification of different variants of this theory and the corresponding software nor a verification of their performance. This article defines categories of 2nd and 3rd order. Examples are given to demonstrate the deficits and the errors for the structural design of the theory of 2nd order which can even be found in the most simple systems.
