Abstract:

The six ravine bridges currently under construction in Kavala, Greece, are amongst 1600 bridges along the 680-km Egnatia Motorway, one of the largest ongoing civil engineering projects in Europe, with an estimated overall budget of USD 2700 million. The site of the bridges is in a medium seismicity zone (peak ground acceleration of 0.16 g), classified as zone II in the Greek code for earthquake-resistant structures. The six bridges have the same basic characteristics. Each bridge consists of two twin structures, one for each carriageway. The two structures are 13.1 m wide and separated by a 0.8-m gap. The span arrangements of the bridges are presented.
