Abstract:

The Cirque du Soleil is a world famous circus company rooted in Montreal that also has traveling shows worldwide. An important aspect contributing to their success has been the unique theatrical nature associated to each show resulting in unusual temporary structures. In this article, some of the design intricacies associated to Cirque du Soleil's temporary structures are presented through one specific road show, Quidam. The structure is an adaptable and dismountable cable stayed space truss spanning 36 m supported by a combination of columns and uplift anchors.
