Abstract:

Final design and construction method of the Collserola tower

The structure of the 300 m. Colserola Tower is ahybrid system formed by three combined structural systems consisting of: - A very slender cylindrical concrete shaft. - A large steel and composite structure which holds the functional systems and is joined to the shaft at the middle of its height. - A set of three families of prestressed cable stays to lend the necessary stiffness and stability to the construction. This structure is completed by an uppuer steel mast which crowns the tower, acting as cantilever. The special characteristics of the building are complemented by an innovate construction method, based on the complete lifting of the steel structure, with a total weight of nearly 3000 t. to the height of 84 m., and then joined to the concrete shaft. Simillarily, the crowning steel mast was elevated through the interior of the shaft and placed in its final position by means of a doubling telescoping procedure.
