Abstract:

The paper concerns the optimum reinforcement design for r/c cross‐sections through the simultaneous consideration of multiple load cases. The problem is solved by methods of non‐linear mathematical programming. In the first part, the calculation model for cross‐sections is derived from extremum principles. The second part deals with the comparison of design strategies using step‐by‐step and parallel calculation. Finally, a numerical example is provided. The discussion shows the efficiency of the presented algorithm compared with traditional design concepts. The strategy demonstrates a considerable decrease in the amount of reinforcement required.
