Abstract:

This paper presents a new type of composite element using composite dowels that was developed for the purposes of the railway bridge over the Vistula River in Krakow, Poland. The structure is the world's first arch bridge using cold‐bent HD rolled sections; hence the idea of a new type of composite connection between arch and tie is new as well, thus a new type of composite arch emerges. The concept, design and construction experience are presented herein.
