Abstract:

Simulation of hydro-abrasion loading in the laboratory. Part 2 - correlation of wear and approaches of prediction

The wear of hydraulic structures is to a great extent caused by hydroabrasive loading. The degree of exposure to such wearing action mostly depends on the flowing waters characteristics, the type, shape and composition of the transported solid phase (sediments) as well as the duration of the exposure. It is also difficult to simulate the hydroabrasive process realistically under laboratory conditions, so that different states of wear as observed in experiments could be compared to or transformed into the real hydroabrasive situations in the practice of construction. The first part of this paper presented the results of own experimental investigations on the effects of various decisive parameters on the concrete degradation due to hydroabrasion. Based on the attained comprehension and data a correlation approach was developed, which enables to estimate the concrete wear under consideration of gravitation and turbulence conditions as well as mean grain diameter. This work is presented in this second part of the paper.
