Abstract:

A pyramid city that lets in light and wind as it rises into the sky, TRY2004 is one interpretation of what the 21st Century city should be. In recent years, Japanese cities, especially Tokyo, have suffered from soaring land prices, housing shortages, and other problems that stem from the excessive centralization of the nation's economic and political functions. Various decentralization proposals including moving Japan's capital away from Tokyo, relocating certain governmental functions to other cities, have been suggested to resolve these problems. TRY2004, a pyramid city rising more than 2000 meters into the sky is the elaboration of this concept. With all-out development in the fields of computers, robots, and new materials, construction technology in the 21st century is bound to transcend the limits of current imagination.
