Abstract:

Eurocode 7 (EN 1997-1 (November 2004) + AC (February 2009)) does not specifically mention tunnelling in the scope of application. In the literature, tunnelling is linked with the retaining structures of Eurocode 7. Tunnelling is not covered by Eurocode 2 (Austrian standards ÖNORM EN 1992-1-1 and ÖNORM B 1992-1-1: 2007 02 01) either. This article discusses the possible interactions of these two Eurocodes and also takes into consideration the Austrian guideline RVS 9.32 (Mai 2004). This guideline has already introduced the partial safety factor concept for reinforced concrete construction and geotechnical engineering.
