Abstract:

The forestry school in Lyss is built almost entirely from timber. The use of timber, in contrast to other materials, demanded a multidisciplinary approach from the outset, in which the architect, building physicist, civil engineer and safety engineer worked together to find the best solution to satisfy the demanding requirements of the project. The main concepts of the project were aimed at satisfying the requirements of the ecological building programme DIANE, which is part of the Energy 2000 action of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. The concept included the use of wood-fired heating with energy recovery, and the development of a low-maintenance building envelope.
