Abstract:

The utilization of air rights over major highways for constructing major structures is not a new one. One such example is the group of four apartment houses spanning the main highway that leads to the George Washington Bridge in Manhattan, NY. The cracking of a major steel plate girder supporting one of these apartment houses is the subject of this paper.
