Abstract:

Many of the bridges constructed in the last 10 years in Australia have been with superstructures using Supertee beams. These are prestressed concrete beams that are precast in versatile forms using straight pretensioned strands. The Supertee beam, developed for bridges in the 18 m to 35 m span range, has been found to be the most economical form of bridge beam for a wide range of applications. Australian bridge engineers working on international projects have 'exported' this development to other countries including Vietnam and Malaysia.
