Abstract:

Osaka Dome is a multi-purpose recreational development for sports, entertainment and shopping. A large tube-like form undulates around the perimeter of the dome. The design concept of the dome calls for a variable-volume indoor space that can be adapted to create most suitable dimensions for a variety of events. This flexibility is achieved by a mechanized system that can change the arena and seating configurations. The ceiling is also variable, composed of concentric ring-shaped elements that can be raised or lowered to create the appropriate internal space configuration. The roof itself is made of polycarbonate panels.
