Abstract:

Some aspects of structural light weight aggregate concrete

This paper shows the most relevant properties of Light Weight Aggregate Concrete as compared to those of regular concrete. Specifically, batch mixing and production of this kind of concrete are reviewed: components, besides LWA, mix design, fresh concrete properties due to LWA, influence of the Light Weight Aggregate of final strength, densities, proportioning, pumping and put-in-place, compaction and curing. Mechanical properties are also reviewed: compression strenght, tension and shear strengths, bond strength and young's modulus, and, finally, time dipendent properties: creep, shrinkage and relaxation. The shown data are part of a report issued by EnroLightCon Team on the state-of-the-art of Light Weight Aggregate Concrete. The authors of this paper have formed part of EuroLightCon Team, within European Union Program Brite-Euram III.
