The Forth Replacement Crossing will be built across the Firth of Forth to maintain and improve reliability of a vital transport link in Scotland. The wide estuary will be crossed by a unique 3-tower cable stayed bridge with a pair of 650 m main spans across two navigation channels, and overlapping stay cables in the middle of the main spans to stabilize the central tower.

This paper describes the study of alternative concepts for the bridge and the process leading up to the selection of the chosen concepts to be developed into the Specimen Designs.
