Abstract:

This paper describes improvements made to the foundations of the Bangkok Transit System Extension (BTSE) Sukhumvit Line – Part 1 to mitigate the problems with differential settlement of the at-grade roads experienced on many existing projects in Bangkok. Features of the new foundations are highlighted and the technical issues that had to be addressed in the design of the viaduct structure due to the new foundation concept are discussed.
