Abstract:

This paper introduces a method for monitoring the fatigue crack propagation rate of bridge cable wires using acoustic emission technology. Through the prefabricated damage notch, the comprehensive use of strain gauges and acoustic emission for real-time monitoring of high- strength steel wire specimens in cables, establishing the corresponding relationship between AE count rate and stress intensity factor ΔK. Based on the correlation among crack propagation rate, AE count rate and stress intensity factor range, the relationship between AE count rate and crack propagation rate is derived. The results show that the application of the acoustic emission sensor can intelligently detect the propagation state and rate of fatigue cracks on the cable wire. Acoustic emission count rate can be used to effectively monitor the fatigue crack propagation of cable high- strength steel wire, and then the damage and residual life can be evaluated and predicted.
