Abstrakt:

Cable stayed bridges are critical components of our infrastructure and carry ever increasing traffic flows connecting locations and people. These landmarks do not just have to be safe and function reliably, but in the modern world of connected objects they can become a powerful tool to enhance the public experience and even be used as a screen to display visual content. New solutions exist to improve the resilience of stay cable bridges. An innovative solution to mitigate the risk of snow and ice accretion on stay cables and a novel protection system withstanding severe fire loading from hydrocarbon pool fires has been developed. In addition an integrated LED lighting system is proposed to add new functionalities by embedding durable, waterproof, replaceable and low maintenance LED modules into the HDPE stay pipe. The resulting array of LEDs can be used to display varying visual content from simple color schemes to animated sequences.
