Notes

The pylon design was governed by the need to keep the height low as the bridge is near the flight-paths of the Düsseldorf airport.

In 2000 a contest was held asking the citizens of the cities and counties of Düsseldorf, Neuss, Mettmann, Krefeld and Mönchengladbach to submit names for the new bridge. The name "Niederrheinbrücke" obtained the most submissions and was going to be adopted, however the Federal Transport Secretary decides to name the bridge "Flughafenbrücke" (Airport Bridge) instead.
