| 12 May 2008, 14:28 | A 8.0 magnitude (Richter scale) earthquake strikes the Wenchuan area of Sichuan province. While still under construction, though nearly finished, the bridge is damaged as one approach span is entirely unseated and collapses into the lake below. |
