The Pentagon

An aerial view of the Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) located between the Potomac River and Arlington National Cemetery. The Pentagon employs approximately 23,000 military and civilian personnel and is one the world's largest office buildings with three times the floor space of the Empire State Building in New York City (NYC). In the background the obelisk of the Washington Monument is visible.

A hijacked Boeing 757 slams into a section of the Pentagon in an apparent terrorist attack that also destroyed the World Trade Center in New York entirely and at roughly the same time.

11 June 2002

Ceremony marks the reconstruction of the façade of the Pentagon's damaged section. The interior structure is still being reconstructed.
