Zig-zag or "switchback" (American) railway for change of elevation.
Restored as tourist/heritage railway using 1.067m track gauge (instead of original 1.435m) and railway rolling stock from Queensland system.
National Engineering Landmark of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
Contains three multi-span masonry viaducts and two tunnels.
