Chronology
1940s
After the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, a stiffening truss and cable-stays are installed in order to make the bridge more stable in adverse wind conditions.
2001- 2008
Rehabilitation of the entire bridge system. During the works, the stiffening truss will again be removed as well as the cable-stays both installed in the 1940s. In order to stabilize de deck, fiber-glass fairings will be installed on either side of the plate girder, improving the aerodynamic flow of air around the deck (similar to a trapezoidal box girder in use on many European suspension bridges).
