Family
Son of engineer and mathematician Peter Barlow.
1838
Works for Midland Railways
1857
Opens his own office.
1860
Participates in the construction of the Clifton Suspension Bridge designed by I. K. Brunel.
1876
Travels to the United States and becomes fervent user of steel in his designs.
1879 - 1880
President of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
