Arrives in Philadelphia;
Settles in Saxonburg, Pennsylvania;
Works as a waterway and railway engineer

Begins manufacturing wire rope in Saxonburg

Repairs canal bridge over the Allegheny at Pittsburgh, his first use of air spinning method for the suspension cables

Roebling wire company in Trenton, New Jersey
1850
Proposes to lay a transatlantic cable for better communication between Europe and America
1867
Construction of the Cincinnati-Covington Bridge completed.
1869
Construction of the East River Bridge (Brooklyn Bridge) begins, Roebling's foot gets crushed by the piling of a dock, he dies of lockjaw several days later
