Abstract:

This paper develops an analysis of the natural frequencies of cable-stayed bridges using both an analytical and a numerical bridge model. Useful results are obtained using an analytical model which is capable of accounting for the main parameters of the bridge. In particular, the influence of the tower parameters on the bridge free-frequencies, including geometric nonlinearities, is investigated. Finally, some comparisons between the analytical and numerical results are given, which validate the simple analytical model.
