Abstract:

Named Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement of the Year, the Luling-Destrehan Bridge across the Mississippi River, twelve miles north of New Orleans, has a 1,222 ft. main span that is the world’s second longest. Built of weathering steel, it was designed to withstand 200mph hurricane winds. One caisson was designed to be constructed by the floating mehtod.
